About this work

Description

Didactica medica. Mexico Summaries of, and comments on, a series of lectures held 29 April-15 July 1813 as part of an 'Academia' attended by students and presided over by a Regente, a body which tallies with that described by Flores (1886-88), 2, p. 265, as existing in the Hospital de Jesús by 1775. The series of lectures, brought to an end in part by the epidemics of 1813, examined a miscellany of medical topics, including the use of Latin, the effects of barometric pressure, the mechanics of eating, the diet and the digestion, the nature of muscular movement, and the content of pulque. A model Latin thesis is included at pp. 155-183 for the instruction of students.
