    the benefit of the school itself or of the public at large. In taking this course, it may be contended that the council did no more than was right; on the ground that no school is entitled to a selfish monopoly of the scientific truths which its existence re- veals, and that it can but claim to hold and use them as a trustee for the pubHc benefit in which it shares. But it is not every corporate body which is so prompt to see and so ready to do its duty in such matters ; and I think that the votaries of sanitary science, at all events, will be the last to withhold their approval of a course which is consonant with their own teaching.
