"The Anio Novus and Acqua Claudia are carried together from their catch-basins on lofty arches, the Anio being above. Their arches end after the Pallantian gardens, and from that point their waters are distributed in pipes to serve the city. Yet the Claudia first transfers a part of itself on to the arches which are called Neronian near the temple of Ancient Hope.
