Description

Apparently an episode in an opera 'Paul et Virginie, ou le Triomphe de la vertu' (1794) composed by Jean-François Le Sueur with book by Alphonse du Congé Dubreuil , based on Paul et Virginie, 1788, by Jacques-Henri Bernardin de Saint-Pierre. Identified in the British Museum online catalogue as an episode in 'Paul and Virginia,' a musical drama by James Cobb, but that is said to have been launched at Covent Garden on 1 May 1800, whereas the published form of the present mezzotint bears the date August 1799
