About this work

Description

The fourth in a 6-part series about complementary and alternative medicine (CAM). This part takes as its premise Hippocrates' golden rule for healers: 'first, do no harm.' We then look at some of the natural remedies which are dangerous such as opium, belladonna and digitalis. IF some aspects of CAM therapies are dangerous, what's being done to protect patients? Although there have been a scattering of possibly unnecessary deaths among people using CAM therapies, are they really dangerous or are the scares and warnings about CAMs a political weapon used by those with a vested interest in discrediting the alternative market?
