Bible. N.T. Matthew 27.34-50; Mark 15.24-37; Luke 23.33-45; John 19.18-34. The line of the ladder leading up to Christ continues in the diagonal ray of the sun. The women are the four holy women: the Virgin, Mary Magdalene, Mary, mother of James the less, and Salome. The Virgin Mary stands pleading at the foot of the cross. A soldier points at himself while looking at Christ. Behind him is a gallows adorned with a shred of rope
