About this work

Description

Nepal; Kunde hospital in the Khumbu region, 1986. A patient sits on a bench outside. The hospital has an eight-bedded room for long-stay patients plus facilities for their families to care for them (food, laundry and basic hospitality are not provided by the hospital staff). In addition, there is a three-bedded room for overnight stay, a small paediatric unit, and a teaching room. Basic health education classes are held sporadically at the hospital in conjunction with Khumjung Secondary School (built in 1961 and funded by the Himalayan Trust). Family planning is available but not generally sought. See also N0022559 and N0022560.
