About this work

Description

Cerebral cryptococcosis This is a medium power view of the brain in a patient with cerebral cryptococcosis in AIDS. Around the central blood vessels in the Virchow-Robin space there are numerous yeasts of Cryptococcus neoformans. The central nucleus is visible, surrounded by a large empty-looking, mucoid capsule. Note the lack of inflammation, which is typical of this disease in HIV/AIDS. H&E stain.
