    across by sharp scissors, as little as possible being re- moved ; the divided ends are then to be sutured by several sutures of carbolized or chromicized catgut, which must take a good hold both of nerve and its sheath. If possible, primary union must be obtained and free drainage insured, as both presence of clot and suppuration of wound are most detrimental to the chance of healing.
