Description

Reproduction of a chart showing the Northwest Passage, the sea route to the Pacific Ocean through the Arctic Ocean. A caption is attached at the bottom of the chart and reads: "Chart showing the North West Passage discovered by H.M.S. 'Investigator'. Also the coast explored in search of Sir J. [John] Franklin. 1848-1853. By Captain E. [Edward] A. Inglefield. H. M. S. Phoenix, 1853". The item was part of a polar exhibition held in the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum's central hall in July 1930. It was previously part of the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum but is not held by Wellcome Collection.
