Description

Black and white photograph of a cystic adenoma which was removed from the left lobe of the thyroid gland of a young man, by Dr Paul Niehans, at the Insel Hospital, Berne, on 11 August 1886. The tumour, which has been split open from the front, is chiefly composed of fibrous tissue. It contains a cyst as large as a walnut, which is definitely encapsulated, its interior being smooth, white, and glistening. The specimen was once preserved in the Hunterian Museum, Royal College of Surgeons, London, No.2907b.
