    In one case the organ affected was not named on the death certificate, but only the region in which the growth occurred. Influenza has again made its appearance, but the disease has chiefly been of a very mild character, only two deaths having occurred, and both elderly people. Phthisis I am glad to say shows a marked decrease on last year’s return. Fifteen deaths are recorded, whereas 22 occurred during 1904. As I have mentioned in previous Eeports, all houses in which death occurs from this disease are disinfected, and printed instructions containing the measures that ought to be adopted in order to prevent infection are distributed whenever I become aware of any case. The deaths from disease of the Eespiratory Organs, exclusive of Phthisis, amount to 32, which is considerably less than the previous year, when 43 were recorded. This is chiefly to be attributed to the mild weather prevalent during the Spring and early Winter. Births and Birth Eates.—The total number of Births in the entire District was 449, which compares favourably with the two previous years, when 425 and 438 were recorded respectively. Out of the total number of Births 24 were illegitimate, which shows that out of every 1,000 births, 53‘2 were born out of wedlock. I now come to the Zymotic diseases, and am sorry to report a considerable increase in the number of notifications. During the year 188 cases were recorded, which compares most unfavourably with 77 of 1904. This marked increase is to be attributed entirely to Scarlet Fever having broken out in several of the parishes. Diphtheria.—Only two eases have occurred, and both these were notified from Houghton Conquest.
