On the motion of Mr. Griffin it was unanimously decided to send a letter of sympathy and good wishes to Sir Edward Nicholl. 14. Report of the Committee of the West Cornwall Miners’ Women’s Hospital for the year ended 31st December, 1937, read at the Thirty-seventh Annual General Meeting of the Subscribers on the 12th day of May, 1938. 'T'HE tables which form the appendices to this report present in A convenient form a comparative statement of the work of the hospital during the year, and only a few explanatory remarks at this point are necessary. IN-PATIENTS. The number of patients admitted during the year shows a small decrease, but the actual number of patient-days (which more truly represents work done) shows a substantial increase. This has been accomplished in spite of certain adverse factors. The year began with an outbreak of influenza during which only really urgent cases could be dealt with. This was followed by two periods in which it was necessary to close one of our largest wards as a measure of precaution against infection. In the circumstances the bed occupancy of 14,056 days, as against 12,606 in the previous year, has involved persistent overcrowding of wards, and a continuous waiting list. The verandah adjoining the male wards was enclosed, and here we managed to accommodate two, and often three, patients.
