Notes

The following description was provided by James Gardiner: "The lovely Private Webster as ‘Alouette’ in the Goods, concert party attached to 58th (London) Division, France c.1916. Webster was so attractive and convincing as a woman that it is hard to imagine he had had no experience of this sort of thing before enlisting. Although ad hoc concert parties were organised by many (in fact most) units and divisions as the war progressed a more organised approach was taken, and professionals and aspirants were taken on board to make the concert parties more professional."
This work is untitled: the title has been supplied by the cataloguer.
