Description

Prescriptions dispensed to various individuals by chemists in Central London, Harrow, Nottingham and Taunton, covering 1918-1946:

1-3 Patient M H: prescriptions made out for Miss M H, 1874-1964, by Dr Cecil Webb-Johnson of 20 Upper Wimpole Street, W1. Each in printed envelopes of, and stamped by, John Bell & Croyden, 50 Wigmore Street, London, W1, and addressed to Lady Emily Lutyens, 13 Mansfield Street. Dated 10 Feb 1928, 18 and 25 Feb 1929.

4 Patient R: One prescription made out for Miss R by Dr W J McKeand of 14 Arlington Street, Piccadilly, SW1. In printed envelope of, and stamped by, Pope Roach & Son, Chemists to His Majesty the King and the Royal Family, 71 St James's Street, London, SW1, and addressed to Miss R, c/o 20 St James's Place, 8 Jul 1933

5-6 Patient O: Two prescriptions made out for Miss O, by Dr H Neil Maclay of 21 South Eaton Place, SW1. In printed envelope of Moore & Co, Dispensing Chemists, 45 Craven Road, Lancaster Gate, London, W2. Dated 29 May and 1 Jun 1934.

7/8 Reginald S T Sandberg of Glenfield, 431 Pinner Road, Harrow. In printed envelope of, and stamped by, Morrell & Dixon MPS, Pharmacists & Dispensing Chemists, 5 Broadway Parade, North Harrow, Middlesex.

7/9 Eight prescriptions made out for Mr and Mrs M of 37 Kingsfield Avenue by: C White of St Julians, Kingsfield Avenue, North Harrow. In printed envelope of, and stamped by Morrell & Dixon MPS, Pharmacists & Dispensing Chemists, 5 Broadway Parade, North Harrow, Middlesex.

Originally in the possession of Mrs Alice Rayfield (née Hall), and given by her to Dr N Naunton Davies, West Malling, Kent, who donated them to the Wellcome Institute for the History of Medicine in 1982 (Acc 162).

This item was presented to the Wellcome Institute for the History of Medicine Library in 1985, by Mrs A R of Maidstone, Kent, and transferred to the Contemporary Medical Archives Centre (Acc 197).

These items were given to the Contemporary Medical Archives Centre in Sep 1997 by the Royal College of General Practitioners, which originally received them from Dr D S H Cannon of Watford, Hertfordshire in Mar 1977 (Acc 732 part).

Biographical note

A collection of private prescriptions created artificially from a number of different accessions. Prescriptions are stamped by dispensing chemists and include the number allocated to them in the chemist's register.
