About this work

Description

Bible. N.T. Matthew 28.9-10. In the background Mary Magdalene leads an apostle (Peter) to the tomb while the younger and fitter John runs on ahead (John 20.2-10). Soldiers sleep outside the tomb; the three Maries stand in front of it (one bearing spices) as "two men ... in dazzling apparel" (Luke 24.4) emerge. However, one points at the other, who therefore may be Jesus: see Matthew 16.5 and Mark 28.2-5
