Description

Worshippers accompanying two oxen in a procession from right to left towards an altar for sacrifice. The right side of a long print on two plates showing two such processions, the other one proceeding from left to right. The lettering running continuously below both prints describes the scene: "In this manner the ancients, a people ignorant of righteousness, with ritually slaughtered bullocks used to placate the divinity of the gods. Thus, their temples girt with bands, they gave up salty crops and incense, and much blood used to steam up at the altars"
