Description
Lepromatous leprosy (LL): histoid leprosy
This is a high power view of a histoid leprosy lesion. The acid-fast bacilli (AFB) are packed within macrophages, like 'sheaves of wheat'. The AFB are solid-staining, which indicates viability. Wade-Fite stain.
Histoid lesions characteristically have very high densities of solid-staining AFB.
