    The expenditure of the past quarter has been as follows : £ 8. d. The number of patients on the 80th December is, as reported above, 558. The number of patients at the corresponding period last year was 540, showing an increase during the year of 18 patients. The Surveyor reports that the buildings and boundary walls of the Asylum are in a substantial state and condition, but the buildings are insufficient to accommodate all the patients, and in consequence the Visitors have (with the approval of the Secretary of State for the Home Department,) transferred thirty patients to Macclesfield, so that the number actually in the Asylum at the present time is 528, which is still 3 in excess of the number the Asylum is calculated to provide accommodation for. As it is necessary to reserve a few spare beds in the Asylum, the Visitors propose transferring to Macclesfield an additional number of patients, which they understand that the Macclesfield Visitors are willing to accept. An opportunity has offered itself of purchasing about four acres of land on the Western side of the Asylum. The Visitors think it desirable that the Court should sanction the purchase of this land, if the Visitors should think it necessary to complete it. The balance due from the Counties and Boroughs for repairs for the past year is £518. 13s. 0d., to be apportioned in the follow¬ ing manner:—to Salop, £344. 14s. 7d.; Montgomery, £138. 3s. Id.; Wenlock, £35. 15s. 4d.
