    CLASS IV. i COMPLICATED DISEASES. I. Slow Fever, (Sy^chus,) Is, in fome degree, a complication'of the inflammatory (CJafs T. i.), and nervous (Clafs II. i.), and is the moil general in this country. Treatment the fame as in N° i, Clafs II. II. Intermitting Fever. Is that kind of fever which pdTelTes a clear intermifiion from febrile fymptoms, for a longer or fliorter fpacc of time. Or it confitls of a fuccclfion of paroxyfms, between which there pre- vails a clear apyrexia. The cure of intermittents depends on the ufe of frimulants or tonics, employed either'on the acceffion of the fit, in its cold ltage, in the hot ftage, or in its interval.- i. On the acccfjion. The remedies employed during this period are, Mechanical irritation by tourniquets, applied one on the arm, and another on the thigh, of oppofite fides of the body, and con- tinued for fifteen or twenty minutes. Emetics, particularly antimonials, in naufeating dofes, begun an hour or two before. 2. In the Cold Stage. ' Stimulants of various kinds, as wine, volatile alkali, vitriolic aether, fpirituous liquors ; alfo, 1^. Pulv. Sem. Pip. Indie, gr. vi. One fart to be taken at the Baccar. Laur. 3 ij. m. et commencement of the rigor, divid. in part tres. . and a fecond and third at the. fame hour, one every day. ( l
