22 October, 1879. London, from P[hilip] E[mbury] Lockwood to Burroughs and J Young Kelley [sic], an agreement to pay certain royalties, "so long as your contract remains in force with the Kepler Malt Extract Company Limited...."

25 May, 1881. London, from P[hilip] E[mbury] Lockwood to Henry Wellcome, beginning: "In reply to your gross insult to me in your office yesterday, I beg to say that the insinuation you made is entirely false and you know it to be so, and you have only raised it as part of your scheme of trying to obtain all the shares of the Co."

2 November, 1881. Copy of legal opinion (Farrer Herschell) on obtaining supply of malt extract "elsewhere than from Mr Lockwood".

4 December, 1881. Written aboard S S Ceylon, Burroughs to Wellcome and Sudlow. "I was delighted that you are going to get rid of Lockwood on such favourable terms as I understood from your telegram...." [6 sheets]

5 December 1881. Draft Memorandum of Agreement between Philip Embury [sic] Lockwood and Burroughs Wellcome & Co.

6 December, 1881. Copied extracts from Wellcome to Burroughs, on the purchase by Burroughs Wellcome & Co of Lockwood's shares (and the shares of other shareholders) "at £9 each". Wellcome "held the matter over a few days before signing, awaiting reply to my cable to Constantinople, but nor hearing from you, thought best to close the matter at once." The purchase comprised an immediate cash sum of £1000 and subsequent staged payments over twelve months: "Before signing these papers I went to Mr Bishop for assistance & he has very kindly favored us with £1000 for one year."

10 May, 1882. Coonoor, India, Burroughs to Wellcome, "Re Kepler Shares". Burroughs asks that existing shares in his name "go into the firm's property at the same rate paid to the others double cost" - here, Burroughs has added "double cost" as an insertion to his sentence - "and without any remuneration to me on a/c of interest in Royalties commissions &c such as is paid to Lockwood if you agree not to demand a half int[erest] in the whole business of BW&Co before four yrs as from date of our partnership agreement."

25 August, 1882. Copied extracts [2 sheets] from Wellcome to Burroughs, on the transfer of Burroughs's Kepler shares to Burroughs Wellcome & Co. "I signed a paper drawn up by our solicitors declaring that all shares in the Kepler Co standing in my name were the property of the firm & sent you a paper to sign but we have never received it back nor have we received a word from you in regard to it." The second extract also refers to Wellcome having obtained Queen's Counsel advice on the vexed question of royalties claimed by Burroughs.

[1882]. Agreement "between The Kepler Malt Extract Company Limited of the one part and Mr Silas Maineville Burroughs and Mr Theodore Young Kelley...." Not signed, with incomplete date.

4 February, 1908. "Report regarding search at Joint Stock Registry, 4th February 1908, re The Kepler Malt Extract Co Ltd."

8 December, 1909. "Memo as to present condition of Company" - "Resolution passed at an extraordinary General Meeting of the Kepler Malt Extract Company Limited held 15th June 1908 and confirmed 30th June 1908 'that the Company be wound up voluntarily'."

16 February, 1911. "Memo of patents that were probably at some time of interest to the Kepler Malt Extract Co Ltd". Five patents listed, with some details of processes given. [2 sheets]
