Author of The recovered thread of England's foreign policy: an appeal to the electors of England, (1880, 5 editions); Foreign secretaries of the XIX century to 1834, 3 vols. (1881-1883); Harrow School and its surroundings (1883); The Brunswick accession (1887); The Stuart dynasty (1890); and Some things we have remembered: Samuel Thornton, admiral, 1797-1859 (1912). Portrayed aged 58 (if birthdate in Who's who was correct as 29 December 1841) with prematurely aged appearance and a stoop
