Description

Lord Edward Fitzgerald (1763-1798), Irish rebel renowned for his gallantry and courage, who was the leading conspirator behind the uprising of 1798 against British rule in Ireland. Fitzgerald was arrested in Dublin on May, 19, 1798, after a fierce struggle during which he was shot in the arm. He died of his wound in prison several weeks later. The rebellion broke out at the appointed time but was suppressed
