Beckett's Enquiry in the antiquity and efficacy of touching for the king's evil, 1722, p. 58: "Dr. Thomas Allen, sometime of Caius College in Cambridge, afterward physician in ordinary to King Charles the Second, published a treatise of the cure of the evil by the touch, which he entitles, 'The excellency or handy-work of the royal hand'."
