About this work

Description

Tindal, after a military career, published a book in 1889 called 'The Netherlands in danger. Not a sensational novel but reality', also contributing many similarly alarmist articles to 'De Amsterdammer', with which this print was published. A controversy ensued. In June 1890, Bergansius, the minister of war, announced various military reforms. Tindal opposed them and attempted to rally the king to his cause, in vain. This print may refer to the run-up to these events. It may also be added that there was an influenza pandemic in 1889
