![Chap. XXXV.] THE EARTH AS PART OF THE SOLAR SYSTEM. 5^3 It has been urged in favour of the terrestrial origin of Aerolites that all their elements are such as we find in the Earth ; but, since it has been shown that the same elements exist in the Sun, and are probably common to the whole Solar System, this argument loses its weight. Further, although the elements are the same, they have entered into some com- binations which, as we have before observed, are not known to exist in the Earth, showing that, although many of the conditions may have been similar, there were others which have produced special results of a peculiar and distinctive character. Such are some of the chief facts connected with the constitution of the Earth, and of its probable origin as part of the Solar System,—an origin in harmony with all its subsequent history, and with the unceasing vicissi- tudes and change which the physical phenomena exhibit in the successive stages and phases of the long geological series of rocks forming the Crust of the Earth.](https://iiif.wellcomecollection.org/image/b28120292_0661.jp2/full/800%2C/0/default.jpg)
