    ing of this work, says,—The work of Dr. Eberle is confessedly one of very great merit. It does much credit to his industry and learning, while it places in a very fa- vourable point of view his abilities as a practitioner. The talents, industry, and variety of research necessary for the production of a system of Practical Medicine, are possess- ed by few, and when we say, as we do with great candour, that the Treatise before us will bear a very favourable comparison with any modern work of the same class, while it is far superior, as well in regard to the soundness of its pathological views, generally speaking, as to the excellence of its therapeutic precepts, to the more popular of the English systems, we confer upon it and its author no mean praise. The April No. of Johnson's London Medico-Chirurgical Review, speaking of this work observes, That this is a very respectable compilation; in fine, superior to Tho- mas's Practice of Physic in this country. Although designed chiefly for professional men, it will be found a valuable practical manual for private or domestic reference. If heads of families were to purchase and consult this work instead of the empirical and in many respects misleading compounds so common, they would have the satisfaction of being assured, that nothing but sound and well tested practical directions would be offered them,—at the same time they would acquire correct notions concerning the character and systems of diseases.— Every person of good understanding may comprehend the practical rules laid down in this work. To render this invaluable work particularly useful, as a work of reference for family use, a glossary is added of the technical terms used in the work.
