About this work

Description

This programme aims to see into the year 2000 and predict what medicine will be doing then. In 1990 a lot of research was being planned into genetics, PET and MRI scanning. A couple who are genetically likely to have a second child with cystic fibrosis are shown as they have their eggs and sperm tested for the CF gene so that doctors can perform IVF with a CF-free embryo. We hear about future medical predictions for a number of conditions including cancer and multiple sclerosis. We also hear about how computers will take over traditional diagnostic procedures, including assisting the role of the GP.
