Description

Very leisurely, minutely detailed portrait of Papworth Hall tuberculosis hospital and Village Settlement for convalescent patients in the years immediately following World War I. In addition to general views of the Hall and grounds, village housing, shops, school, church, etc., shows the reception of new patients; the observation ward; "heliotherapy" (in detached individual chalets set in the grounds), and various forms of occupational therapy, as well as depicting the work of the "Papworth Industries" (cabinet and furniture-making, upholstery, sign-writing, printing, tanning and leather goods manufacture, carpentry and joinery, etc.) and the Papworth poultry farm, piggery and market gardens at inordinate length. Also shows patients' sports and recreations, and major community social events, e.g. Empire Day celebrations, a visit by the Queen and Princess Mary, etc.
