    i rural areas 13,452, the death rates being 0*7 and 0*5 respectively. Greater Bombay recorded 1,704 deaths due to this cause and the death rate was 0- 6. 73. Dysentery.—Under this heading there were 2,905 deaths against 3,045 in 1951. The number of deaths in rural areas was 1,444 and in urban areas 1,461. Greater Bombay recorded 333 deaths during the year. 74. Diarrhoea.—There were 18,368 deaths during the year 1952 against 16,061 in 1951. The urban area had 6,360 deaths and the rural areas 12,008. In Appendix I, a table is given showing the effects on the death rates of the introduction of the piped water supply. 75. Injuries.—The total number of deaths recorded under the heading “ Injuries ” during the year 1952 was 9,772 against 9,737 in 1951. 76. Deaths from SnaJce-bites.—Of the 9,772 deaths due to injuries, 984 were due to snake-bites as compared with 1,326 in 1951. 77. Deaths from Rabies.—202 deaths due to rabies were reported in the State against 189 in 1951. 78. Suicidal deaths.—Under this heading 655 deaths (363 males and 292 females) were recorded against 675 in 1951. 79. Deaths from other causes.—The following table shows the number of registered deaths and death rates due to other causes during 1952 as well as in the previous years :— Year. No. of Deaths.
