About this work

Description

Scanning electron micrographs (SEMs) of neuromast organs of zebrafish lateral line system, showing long stereocilia and clusters of shorter hairs at their bases. The sterocilia work in a similar way to the hair cells of mammalian ears, detecting movements due to pressure changes in bodies of fluid.
