About this work

Description

The first item on the programme is about Mary Somerville, one of the greatest scientists of the 19th century. Somerville had no formal education but flourished in mathematics, astronomy and geophysics. As early 19th century science was not dominated by salaried professionals, but by 'grand amateurs,' Somerville's originality was welcomed. The second item on the programme is about insect altruism.
