About this work

Description

This image refers to the Aesculapius sign, combining it with ophidiophobia/ophiophobia, the fear of snakes. A circle of serpents surrounds a doctor, who seems to have an acute attack of ophidiophobia. One serpent surrounds his head and sees himself in the head mirror reflector. Another serpent plays with the stethoscope. The Aesculapius sign is based on the staff of Aesculapius (also known as Asclepius), the God of medicine in ancient Greek mythology. The sign can be recognised in the modern day medicine symbol. Imaging technique: pendrawing, digitally colored Scale: 15 x 14.7 cm
