About this work

Description

The title and part of the Preface are wanting, the first page is numbered vii. This manuscript seems to be a transcript of an unpublished opuscule by John Coakley Lettsom, as frequent references are made to the West Indies (where Lettsom returned in 1767) and there is an allusion (fo. 44) to "my ingenious Friend Dr. Fothergill." The contents are as follows:- A succinct and comprehensive account of the disease, with a discussion of conditions favourable or unfavourable to it, its diagnosis, treatment and prevention. The text is written in the first person throughout. Each page is headed "Of the Dysentery or Flux" and there are marginal bibliographical references.
