    [57] n time, tho’ Ihort, and that too by means )f fome animal Fluid or Humour wherein t harbours and refides ; from whence, from a Point,gradually fpreading it felf, t fucceffively produces its Effects in an 3rder, generally fpeqking, regular, and omewhat flow. Here, therefore, is a proper Opportu¬ nity afforded for applying a preventive Remedy, by way of Lotion, to the Part lufpe&ed. And what can be more pro¬ per in fuch a Cafe than a Liquor, that by its fubtile penetrating Nature, will readily iinfinuate it felf into the Pores of an ani- imai Body, and at the fame time mix with any clammy Hordes or Filth it may there meet with, and diffolving it wholly, bring it away by repeated Ablutions; whijft it fortifies the Part, and powerfully enables it to refill Putrefadion, or a beginning Inflammation. Now that a pure kind of flrong white Wine warm’d, or Brandy di¬ luted with warm Water, is exactly calcu¬ lated for fuch a Purpofe, will appear felfi- evident to a confiderate Man; at leaft,that Liquor is too commonly ufed in parallel Gales, that the thing fliou’d require any farther Proof. Or if negative Argu¬ ments have any Force, its Succefs is too frequent to fuffer the preventive Force it has, in this very Cafe, to be call’d in queftion. i . ' But
