But as there is fcarce any Diftemper may both wherein tome species or wine may not prevent and be advantageoully applied, if duly timed ZLlfd and juftly proportion’d ; fo particularly, Vifeafe. (how llrong foever the common Opinion runs to the contrary) this noble Medicine has extraordinary Virtues in the feveral Stages of the venereal Difeafe, and may, tho’ that feems furprizing, prove a means both to prevent and cure it. Th is Allertion indeed I cannot exped fnou’d be taken for a Truth, before Rea- fon and Experience are produc’d in its favour. As my Dodrine therefore in this Point carries the Air of Novelty with it, which is alone fufficient to difcredit it with one Part of Mankind, I muft de- fccnd to a clofer Confideration of the Subjed, and fliew the Thing to be firrt rational, and then bring Proofs of its Succefs from Experience. That the venereal Infedion is not com¬ municated inftantaneoufly, and in a pure unmixt State, feparated from all other Matter, can be doubted by no Man who confiders the Nature of the Thing, with Its Efteds ; for the Taint manifeitly ap¬ pears to pafs from one Subjed to another,
