Description

Diary 1852, March and April whilst fitting out H.M.S. North Star. Author's holograph MS. The diary extends from 20 March to 20 April, 1852. The author was serving as surgeon in H.M.S. North Star and had presented to the Board of Admiralty his plan for undertaking the search for Sir John Franklin [1786-1847] in an open boat. This he attempted, but was not successful in his main objective. In 1854 he published his 'Narrative of a Boat Expedition up the Wellington Channel in the year 1852'.
