Notes

"The History of Anaesthesia VIII follows on from previous publications of the International Symposium on the History of Anaesthesia (ISHA) which have been held since the inaugural meeting in Rotterdam in 1982. This volume contains the Proceedings of the very successful 8th ISHA held in Sydney, Australia, and also papers from the affiliated satellite meeting afterwards - the Geoffrey Kaye Symposium, held at the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists, Melbourne. The 8th ISHA 22-25 January, 2013 was the first of the these meetings to be held in the southern hemisphere and was opened by Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC, CVO, Governor of NSW. The theme of the symposium was 'History Matters' a title which was reflected in the 92 excellent papers from 72 speakers presented over three days, with approximately half of the 160 registrants coming from 11 different countries. Highlights were the inaugural Hononrary Patrick Slim Lecture; the Young Historians Sessions with the best paper being awarded the Gwen Wilson Prize; a workshop on the History of Anaesthesia: Securing the Future, and the History of Anaesthesia Exhibition at the Rare Books and Special Collections at the Fisher Library, University of Sydney."--Author's preface.
