Four men gathered around a table, an old man in a cloak and a man with a document standing, the other two playing a game of draughts. The standing man (named on the plate as "Count Viviani") addresses a seated man ("Dr Arbuthnot") who is playing draughts with an unnamed man. The standing man on the left resembles Alexander Pope
