(1) Acts as a propagandist body on matters relating' to the physique of the nation. It distributed in 1912 172,198 copies of its various health publications, designed to promote physical education and improvement, (2) Co-ordinates and extends the work of health agencies already established, and helps to start such organisations where none exist. Has 101 branches and affiliated local societies, which carry on valuable general health work. * (3) Promotes fresh legislation where necessary. (4) Through Special Committees, deals with questions relat- ing to milk, physical training, organised recreation for children, health visiting, and medical inspection of children in schools, housing, &c. (5) Investigates and publishes reports on ‘such matters as the spread of municipal and philanthropic health visiting, methods, and work of “ Schools for Mothers ” and similar institutions, physical education in foreign countries, medical inspection, school clinics, housing conditions, &c. (G) Acts as an information bureau on a large number of sub- jects in which the League is interested. (7) Has a department specially devoted to infant welfare work, which seeks to bring into close relationship all who are engaged in the work of infant consultations, schools for mothers, and similar organisations, and to promote the establishment of such institutions. To unite all members of the nursing profession in one body. 2. To bring al)out a fuller understanding and co-operation between nurses and other social workers. The headquarters of the Union are at 39, Great Smith Street, Westminster. Looks, pamphlets, posters, and other requisites for health work are stocked tliere for tlie use of members and social workers generally. Tlie members now number about a thousand, and represent liospital, private, district, and school nurses, as well as healtli visitors and lecturers, sanitary inspectors, &c.
