About this work

Description

A painting in Rita Simon's Traditional Massive style, depicting a volcano. The piece is by a female patient who started it in the Massive Transition style and moved round to Traditional Massive. According to Rita Simon the work shows, "Modified emotion, being able to flow out, aggression, delight at placing flying pieces of rock. The two destroyed buildings in the right foreground could represent her parents."

The title has been taken from notes made during conversations between Rita Simon and Wellcome staff between 1995 and 1997.

The date has been taken from the artwork as March 1966.
