This collection contains papers of Robert William Torrance (1923-1999) who was a respiratory physiologist. These largely consist of: correspondence, notebooks of experiments, material regarding conferences, reprints, photographs and slides.

Biographical note
Robert Torrance went to Queens College Oxford to read physiology and medicine in 1941. Shortly after his graduation he was asked to become the fellow and medical tutor at St. Johns College, Oxford which he did so in 1952, and he stayed at the college for the rest of his career as a respiratory physiologist. He was also lecturer of University Laboratory of Physiology at Oxford between 1952-1958. He retired as a emeritus fellow of the college in 1990.
