The material mostly relates to surveys, under the aegis of the Policy Studies Institute, undertaken by Professor Allen and colleagues on a range of health and welfare related topics, including: family planning, abortion, sterilisation, care of the elderly, counselling services in reproductive health, stress among nurses, social care, the work of the General Medical Council, midwives, sex education, doctors' careers, community care, healthcare for the homeless, general practice, junior doctors, women doctors, teenage pregnancy, genito-urinary medical provisions
There is also some administrative material relating to the general activities of the Policy Studies Institute

Biographical note

Isobel Allen had a long and productive career at the Policy Studies Institute, an independent policy research organisation (formerly PEP - Political and Economic Planning) now based at the University of Westminster, undertaking numerous social surveys mainly in the area of health and social care. Her methodology normally involved using 'semi-structured' questionnaires and face to face interviews based on the questionnaires.
