Lettering

Polio can cripple -- even the fittest. It's now [now inserted] available free to all up to the age of 26 [26 crossed out and 40 substituted]. Ask your local health department, clinic or family doctor for details. ... Prepared by the Central Office of Information. In the lettering, a change of policy is indicated by inserting "now" with a caret sign, and having "26" crossed out and replaced by "40", both in black cursive scripts amending white majuscules Bears Central Office of Information reference number: P.03 Bears printers' reference number: Wt P79108-2/60 - 6289

Notes

Ministry of Health files at The National Archives (TNA) MH 55/2212 discuss the poster and indicate it was sent to the designers in December 1959. A further set of prints was ordered in February 1960.
