A ferryman rows a packed ferry across a loch. In the centre of the boat stands a white horse carrying a dead stag on its back. The passengers fore and aft include women and children, the hunters of the stag, and men in tartan, one of whom (right) is playing the bagpipes. It appears that the ferryman has thrown his cap into the water to show that his dog would jump into the water to retrieve it
