About this work

Description

Promotion of oral rehydration therapy (ORT) A health worker is using a flip chart to introduce the topic of ORT to a group of women outside their homes in rural Lesotho. Packets of ORS (oral rehydration solution), which contain a special mixture of glucose, sodium and potassium salts are available commercially. Many women may not have access to, or are able to afford these ready made preparations but can prepare ORS at home from a cup of clean water with a pinch of salt and a teaspoon of sugar. This procedure is simple and, if done correctly, can save many lives. See also images W0026842 and W0026843.
