About this work

Description

The film shows child patients exercising at Chailey Heritage Hospital, east Sussex, watched by unidentified doctors. A boy demonstrates his mobility on the roof garden; he struggles a little with the different levels. The doctors look on; one briefly raises him under his arms. A slightly older girl walks to and fro. Her gait with stockings and shows on appears normal. However, once clothing is removed from one leg, she has a severly under-developed limb with no foot. Once fully clothed, she uses a skipping rope with ease.
