The senile mortality, i.e. the number of deaths of persons over 65 years was 1,351 or about 61.50% of the total deaths in 1950. LABORATORY SERVICES. Bacteriological facilities for the County are provided by the Public Health Laboratory, Carmarthen, which is controlled by the Medical 1 Research Council. Excellent service to the community is rendered 1 by this Laboratory which is of great value in the control of epidemics. Full co-operation is maintained between the staff of the Laboratory and the Health Department. The Pathological Laboratory which was • formerly controlled by the County Council, is now administered by the Regional Hospital Board. During 1950, specimens as follows were examined at the Laboratories: -r Bacteriological 25,231 Pathological 13,221 MIDWIFERY SERVICE. The County Council is for the whole County, the local supervising authority under the Midwives Acts, and 139 Midwives notified their i intention to practise in the area during 1950, viz. :—
