Description
Polynices requests his father Oedipus to return to Thebes and defeat his brother Eteocles who had seized power there. Despite the pleading of Ismene, Oedipus rejects Polynices' request with a gesture of disdain. On the left is a Doric temple, representing the temple of the Eumenides (Erinyes, Furies) at Colonus outside Athens
