About this work

Description

To begin, presenter Cathy Newman attends a seminar undercover, headed by former Republican Party politician Greg Cunningham at a Christian church in London. Newman describes the British extremist group Abort67, who have adopted tactics and rhetoric from The Centre for Bioethical Reform in the USA to protest against abortion. Hand-held footage of their work is shown. Newman talks to Ellie, who recounts her experience encountering members of Abort67 when visiting an abortion clinic. Clips of news bulletins concerning abortion protestors in the US are shown. A clip of Donald Trump voicing his views on abortion is shown. Vicki Saporta of the National Abortion Federation speaks about the history of extremist abortion protestors in the US. A clip from an Abort67 training video entitled Dare To See The Truth is shown, following undercover footage of a training session in action, led by Ruth Rawlins. Footage is then shown of the protestors targeting people outside an abortion clinic in Central London. Undercover footage is shown of a reporter posing as a patient being approached by Abort67 protestors. Newman introduces Kitty, who recounts her experiences being approached by protestors from abortion protest group 40 Days for Life. An undercover reporter attends a talk by Shawn Carney at a conference organised by the UK leader of 40 Days for Life, Robert Colquhoun. Public Law expert Louise Whitfield discusses the legality of the protest groups tactics. Former head of CPS and Labour MP Keir Starmer posits how British legislation might be changed to protect people coming into contact with extremist anti-abortion groups. Formal statements by Cunningham and Colquhoun are cited. Undercover footage is shown of a conference paper delivered by Clare McCullough, founder of The Good Counsel Network. Secret footage is shown of an appointment in which McCullough gives medical advice to an undercover reporter. Consultant Gynaecologist Dr Kate Guthrie clarifies the information given by McCullough. Newman confronts a representative of The Good Counsel Network about her distribution of illegal medical information to those pursuing an abortion.
